Dear Colleagues,
As you know, on July 25, 2018, the House of Representatives (House) sent to the President's desk H.R. 2353, the bipartisan Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (acronym yet-to-be-determined). Sponsored by Reps. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), the legislation will help more Americans get the skills they need to prepare for postsecondary education and compete for good-paying, in-demand jobs.
Following approval of their bill, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce released a statement and a fact sheet.
President Trump then released a statement, applauding Congress for their efforts to reauthorize the Perkins legislation.
Secretary of Education DeVos issued a press release, also commending Congress on passage of the act.
As we await the President signing the bill into law, we understand that there are—and have already begun to receive—many questions pertaining to the administration, timelines, and implementation of the new law. To provide the most thorough and timely responses, we ask that you email your questions to: cte@ed.gov. We will be monitoring that mailbox and will respond as quickly as we can, even if all we can do at the moment is provide you a timeframe for when you will receive the information you request.
On behalf of the entire Division of Academic and Technical Education (DATE), we are so excited and energized to work with you to implement this new law and, in so doing, prepare our nation's students for a prosperous future!
Best –
Sharon
